Airlines must compensate passengers on flights delayed more than 3 hours
Airlines must compensate :: The European Court of Justice has ruled that passengers on flights delayed for more than 3 hours have the same right to seek compensation as those on cancelled flights.
Passengers will, therefore, be entitled to compensation equivalent to the established sum for cancelled flights. €250 on flights up to 1,500 kilometres, €400 on flights up to 3,500 kilometres and €600 on flights exceeding the latter.
The European Court states that if the departure time is changed and the flight operates, then the flight is not deemed to have been cancelled. Even though the concepts are different, the consequences are very much the same. That said, the compensation given by the airline could be halved if alternative transport is provided with 4 hours.
